"create two strong benches from a plank"

A set of two benches, could be used as seating and low table, made of components carefully cut out from a plank.  They are capable of supporting two people each, as well as nest one inside the other to make transport volume small.

SlowWood is formed by skilled wood craftsmen who have sustainable source of materials and way of living.  Our initial concept was to design a versatile piece of furniture, with minimum waste of the material and customers self assembly for reducing the transportation carbon footprint.

At the begining we expected a log, so we designed two benches with bark still on, flat-pack. In the end, the material we received was an Elm plank - our design was shifted to a challenge of making two strong benches with thin boards. The detachable braces, possible by the fine craftmanship, allow two benches being strong and nesting together.

This is one of the J+I projects, which was launched as a part of Hands on Design exhibition at fuoriSalone 2014.
